B.A.Chidambaranath, who has given us memorable melodies like “Pakalkinaavin Sundaramaami…”, “karayunno puzha chirikkunno…”etc passed away on Friday, August 31st at his residence in Saligramam in Chennai. Chidambaranath, who had been living in Chennai for many years, was born in Bhoothapandi in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu.
He got trained in music under his father Bhoothapandi Arunachalam Annavi. It was in 1949 with Vellinakshatram that Chidambaranath made his debut as a music director. His swan song was Aramana Veedum Anjoorekkarum in 1996 for which he composed music along with his son Rajamani, who is a popular music-director himself. In a career spanning about 50 years, Chidambaranath delivered some memorable tunes in films like Sthree, Murapennu, Pakalkinaavu etc.
The most remembered of his tunes include “Pakalkinaavin Sundaramaami…”, “karayunno puzha chirikkunno…”, “Keshadipaadam Thozhunne…”etc. He had also composed melodious non-filmy devotional songs in Malayalam including “Gangayaaru pirakkunnu Himavanmalayil…” and has also written and composed some kritis in Tamil, notably `Vani vagadeswari.' As a music director he had used mostly the melodious voices of Yesudas and S.Janaki. Though the gifted musician, a pioneer in the realm of Malayalam film music, is no more, his melodies will always continue to linger in our hearts forever.
FilmySouth pays its tributes to the departed soul!
