Debutante director Devan Nair comes up with Atheetham, a very offbeat film that delves into matters spiritual as well as material, from a very different perspective. The film tells the story of a young man named Anandan, who is the disciple of a very learned guru, Guru Chaithanyananda Swamy.
Anandan is all set to be ordained for monk hood. But at this juncture something happens that makes him meander into novel tracks. The brother of a close friend of his gets killed owing to the cruelty of a greedy and worldly-minded influential money-lender and this makes Anandan think of the real world around him.
He decides to try other paths too and meanders into the realm of revolutionary thoughts and activities. This is but the beginning of a new journey or a quest for young Anandan, who travels to different places and takes up different roles and even lands up in Varanasi.
What all happens in the course of Anandan’s quest and where he reaches ultimately forms the rest of the plot. Rahul Eeswar makes his debut as Anandan while Kannada actor Dathathreya is Guru Chaithanyananda Swamy.
Lata Ramdas renders the sole song in the film, which has been penned by Isra Ansari and set to tune by Pradyumnan Sharma.
