Biju Viswanath, the cinematographer-cum-director from Thiruvananthapuram who had directed films like Déjà vu (an international venture premiered at the Locarno Festival) and Mahotsav (which had been premiered at the Pusan Festival and which is yet to be released), now does an Irish film for a change.
Biju, who had also cranked the camera for films like the Mammotty-starrer Malayalam film Phantom and the K.Balachander-directed Tamil film Poi, has completed two schedules of the Irish film Lorg, which in Irish means ‘The Quest’.
The film, which is shot exclusively in Ireland with an all-Irish crew, is based on the literary works of Irish poetess Celia de Friene, who pens the script too along with Biju Viswanath. “Lorg is based on six poems by Celia de Friene and the film is a series of stories woven into a film”, says Biju, who is now in Thiruvananthapuram after the second schedule.
Produced under the banner of Indibhid, the film has been shot in Dublin, Connemara and Galway and has in the cast Irish actresses Mary Murphy, Katherine Graham and Laura Mac Carthy.
It was after forming an impression about Biju through his film Mahotsav, which was screened at the New York Festival too that Celia de Friene contacted Biju Viswanath and spoke about the project.
The film has an English version too along with the Irish version and will be released by summer next year.
